This story gripped my heart and soul from the first sentences and did not let go. The writing is excellent, so much so that I was propelled along on this life and death journey with the protagonists. Read it...

A story of love, courage, strength, betrayal and survival. Klara Janowska and her 10 year daughter Alicja are in Graufeld Displaced Persons camp in Germany at the end of WW2. Klara is hoping to be relocated to England as her mother was English, but it is taking time to process all the applications for relocation. Then one day Klara recognises a man in the camp from her past in Warsaw, he is an ex Nazi officer, and she fears for her and daughter’s life. Even when the war is over people are not safe and and the lengths Klara goes to, to protect her daughter are extraordinary. A good read.
