This is an uncorrected proof version that I was passed by Sherdnerdess - I can't find the registered version, so I am re-registering it. The book is not entirely complete and some of the pictures and captions are a bit wonky - still readable, though.

It isn't my favourite Mary Beard work that I've ever read, even allowing for the errors. I think I was expecting a fresh take on the so-called "Twelve Caesars" themselves, which this doesn't really provide, concentrating instead on the imagery surrounding them and other emperors. There is also an attempt to link their iconography to that of more modern leaders, which I somehow found less than engaging. I am sure the level of research and the scholarship is of a high standard, but it was delivered in a much drier way than is ideal. Still - worth a read for either Beard or Roman history completists.
