I started reading this as part of a book club in Vancouver, set it aside, moved to Toronto, found it in a Florida book store, and finished reading it in January 2022.

Released at the Toronto BookCrossing meetup at Harbord House.

Although this is a fictionalized version of the affair between Maymah Borthwick and Frank Lloyd Wright, I felt as if I was reading a memoir. It was a bit over the top with its flowery prose in parts but in others it was so strong in describing Maymah's torment over her children.
At times I felt like both Maymah and Frank were insufferable, selfish and self-absorbed. They wanted their cake and to eat it too. The saving grace for me, for Maymah was her passion about anything she loved; her children, Frank, her writing and her feminism. My heart broke for her children and as a mother, I can't even imagine what it would have been like to leave my young children for over a year - for any reason. It took me a long time to warm to Frank and when the novel ended I still feel like he was too arrogant and too full of himself to deserve Maymah.
Saying that, neither of them deserved the end.
Thanks for bringing this to the meetup Sillygwailo. I am going to Buffalo in a few weeks and I might just see if I can find a FLW house and leave this nearby.
