A copy I've had for years. Might as well go out, as my medievalist interests lean more to Anglo-Saxon literature than Norse. 13th Century sagas from Iceland. Interesting - somewhere between oral history and folk stories. You can see some of the same issues in the first three of these sagas covered in much later literature of rural life (e.g. Hardy, Zola). The last four are tales of Icelandic travellers to Scandinavia, and their dealings with the kings and princes there. I especially like Hreidar the Fool - some of this story of a wise ruler spotting the potential in a seemingly useless retainer reminds me of "wisdom literature" from other cultures (the Japanese Hagakure springs to mind).

RELEASE NOTES:

To release for my 40th birthday challenge.
I'm going to softball practice - I'll release this somewhere on my way there or home.
