The watcher sees who you are...and knows what you did.

It's the perfect home for the perfect family: pretty Nora Howell, her handsome husband, their two teenage daughters, and lovable dog. As California transplants making a fresh start in Brooklyn, they expected to live in a shoebox, but the brownstone has a huge kitchen, lots of light, and a backyard. The catch: its previous residents were victims of a grisly triple homicide that remains unsolved.

Soon, peculiar things begin happening. The pug is nosing around like a bloodhound. Nora unearths a long-hidden rusty box in the flowerbed. Oldest daughter Stacey, obsessed with the family murdered in their house, pokes into the bloody past and becomes convinced that a stranger is watching the house. Watching them.

She's right. But one of the Howells will recognize his face. Because one of them has a secret that will blindside the others with a truth that lies shockingly close to home--and to this one's terrifying history.

I received an ARC of this title by the publishers, William Morrow via Goodreads. I have never read this author and was intrigued by the book description.

Nora and Keith bring their two daughters, Stacey and Piper, from California to a house in Brooklyn, New York. Keith has been transferred for a year to the Big Apple. The couple has some marital struggles and the daughters are not too thrilled with leaving their friends behind.

They soon discover the house they are renting has a dark history. There is a Victorian memento mori photograph hanging in the entryway. While that is creepy enough, as the family starts to settle in and meet neighbors they are told there was a triple murder that took place in the home! One of the daughter’s becomes a bit obsessed with the murders in the home and discovers that someone is watching them.

The story is told in several viewpoints but mostly from the voices of Nora and Stacey. The story has characters that are likeable and as you read, they feel like people you know. I like that. As the story continues, points move a little slower than I usually enjoy but I kept reading. The last third of the book reveals all the layers and it comes together. Just as I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was surprised.

It was a fun, fast and enjoyable read. If you prefer to read a mystery/thriller that is a touch on the lighter side, you will enjoy this read. Since this is the first book I have read by this author, I would pick up another title to read.
