I was really looking forward to reading this book and it did not disappoint. The author has clearly completed a great deal of research about the Pack horse library project, the disease which causes the skin to appear blue, life in the Appalachian’s in the 1930’s, the poverty and racial prejudice that was rife.
I am sure that the tale of Cussy Mary was one that many who were alive then and lived in those conditions could relate to.
This book is a powerful read that has given me a great deal to reflect upon.
