With her family’s fate resting on her shoulders, Evie learns her lessons in life fast. It’s going to take a woman’s courage to find a new beginning…
One night, after her father gambles everything away, Evie and her family are forced to do a moonlight flit. It’s a fresh start in the South, where no-one knows their name, and Evie desperately misses all they’ve left behind. Yet Evie’s troubles are just beginning. Her mother, worn down by life, deserts them for a new man, and with her grandmother’s sight failing, Evie must carry the burden of earning their keep. Holding the family together becomes harder when tragedy strikes at its heart, but there is hope on the horizon . . .
Evie Carter just needs the courage to change the fortunes of her family.

Arrived this morning as a RABCK, thank you C-Freckle. I used to read a lot of Josephine Cox but for reason I haven't for a while. I look forward reading this.
Journal Entry 4 by kirstykat at Potters Bar, Hertfordshire United Kingdom on Saturday, August 6, 2022
This is a typical Josephine Cox novel. It is an easy read and helped me get my appetite for reading back.
A simple plot with a 'know it will end well ' expectation.
I felt that the end was very hurried with none of the care of the rest of the story, almost as if the author was on a deadline. Careless and sloppy.
The plot itself was typical Northern Saga and felt more formulaic than normal, as if she was filling author contracts.
This is a shame, as I enjoyed her earlier work, but I don't enjoy manufactured writing that is churned out for the sake of it, which this definitely felt like...

On it's way to Daffodil-2 for her to enjoy, if she chooses, and for the volunteer bookshelf at The Cameo Cafe, which raises money in support of Dementia.
Be enjoyed and travel well, little book!
PS: Very sorry that Bella, my naughty bunny, nibbled the top of the paperback cover! :P

I already have books travelling in many countries around the world-a list can be found on my bookcrossing profile.
When re-releasing this book please be aware that airports are not a good place to leave books unless they have a specific book exchange shelf or area, due to security problems, so they may well just be disposed of. Also charity shops may well discard books that have been labelled in any way and they mostly chose only the books in the very best condition
to place on their shelves and discard the rest-so another bad release option.
