"Mick 'Scorcher' Kennedy is the star of the Dublin Murder Squad. He plays by the books and plays hard, and thatʼs how the biggest case of the year ends up in his hands.

On one of the half-abandoned “luxuryˮ developments that litter Ireland, Patrick Spain and his two young children have been murdered. His wife, Jenny, is in intensive care. At first, Scorcher thinks itʼs going to be an easy solve, but too many small things canʼt be explained: the half-dozen baby monitors pointed at holes smashed in the Spainsʼ walls, the files erased from the familyʼs computer, the story Jenny told her sister about a shadowy intruder slipping past the houseʼs locks. And this neighborhood—once called Broken Harbor—holds memories for Scorcher and his troubled sister, Dina: childhood memories that Scorcher thought he had tightly under control."

#4 in the Dublin Murder Squad series. "Scorcher" Kennedy takes his job seriously. After a miscalculation in a previous case, he's anxious to be back on top. When three of the four family members of the Spain family are found murdered in their home in what was formerly known as Broken Harbor, Kennedy is assigned to the case with a new rookie partner. While the 4th member of the family lies in intensive care, Kennedy begins work on investigating the case, though there are some oddities about the house itself that don't add up. Meanwhile, with a history of his own dating back to Broken Harbor as a child, he must work though some of his demons.

This is another good installment in the series. I honestly can't rank one of these books over another -- I don't have one single favorite. Each one is very different from the other, and I think that what makes these so enjoyable for me is that they're not just about solving a crime, but there's good character development in each one as well. I will say I was a little disappointed with the ending of this one. Despite the length of this book, the ending was kind of abrupt, and similar to book #1 in the series, I didn't necessarily like the direction in which Tana French took one of the characters. But again, I don't have to always agree with the author for her to write a good book.
