What a wonderful book this was. I have had it for a long time, but somehow it has not been one of those books that I wanted to grab right away even though I heard a lot good about it. And then 2020 came covid-19 and the book felt too close to home.

But for some books the time comes when it feels like just the right moment and now was it.A deadly virus touches everyone and soon nothing is the same. Still after twenty years the collapse there is this: "What was lost in the collapse, almost everything, almost everyone, but there is till such beauty." There is Shakespeare and music, comic books and people traveling together, looking after one other.

A book that stay with me for a long time and a book that I hope many will read after me. Due to small accident the book is not not in mint condition but I hope that won't matter. What's inside is wonderful.

Poor book, it has certainly seen better days. It was `sold`to me at a mini-meet-up in Kerava, as it dealt with a pandemic… So, a perfect corona-read, I guess.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Decided there is enough virus going around with omicron corona-variation, so the book can move on as it happens to be on the wishlist of somebody who is coming to town on Saturday. This will, however, be a birthday present for her June Jubilee, so Happy Birthday, hopefully you haven't caught The Virus!

Thank you! This was indeed on my wishlist, but at some point took it off as I realized I'd already watched a Netflix series based on this exact book & frankly didn't like it that much... so I'm probably not going to read it now, even if the book might be much better than its Netflix version.

I liked this book partly. Most of the things that happen during and after the pandemic are good, but stuff before it is boring. Especially Arthur Leander with all his marriages and divorces is really boring! So is part of Miranda's story, although I feel for her and like that she made the comic that plays a part in the whole story.
The parts I like the most are Kirsten's travels with the Travelling Symphony and Clark's and other traveller's settling into the airport and the beginning of the museum.
The Prophet was so accurate it was dull. I think all sorts of fanatics tend to rise when people face catastrophes - and they so often seem to be men who feel entitled to a lot of women and power, and somehow there are always people who are willing to follow them.
The best thing in the book is the story of hope, how people survive, how they help each other and how they continue needing and doing art in difficult times.

A book worth reading, but not as great as I'd hoped. Thank you for it in any case!
I tried to repair the book a bit, so that it can still continue its travels.
