In Brexit Britain, a young transgender doctor called Ry is falling in love – against their better judgement – with Victor Stein, a celebrated professor leading the public debate around AI.
Meanwhile, Ron Lord, just divorced and living with Mum again, is set to make his fortune launching a new generation of sex dolls for lonely men everywhere.
Across the Atlantic, in Phoenix, Arizona, a cryonics facility houses dozens of bodies of men and women who are medically and legally dead … but waiting to return to life.

Frankissstein by Jeanette Winterson - Very Good maybe Excellent
Oh dear. I read this nearly three months ago and am now 18 books on with no reviews written all because I just don't know where to begin to review this book.
I remember seeing Janette Winterson talk about it at the Edinburgh Book Festival and was blown away with her nervous energy and passion and this comes across in the book.
The story is written in two timeframes: 1816 where Mary Shelley is writing Frankenstein and Brexit Britain where Ry Shelley, a transgender Dr is visiting with AI specialist Professor Victor Stein and meeting Ron Lord who makes sex dolls for a living.
Obviously there's a parallel between the two stories and we watch Mary write her book whilst the updated version opens our eyes to AI and a possible future.
I found it totally immersing and, whilst some of it was taken to an extreme, scarily possible. As AI becomes more and more integrated into our society, just where will it stop? How far will we take it? How far should be let it go? So many questions.
Someone reviewed this as 'a dazzling reanimation of Mary Shelley's novel'. Perfect summation.
