CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
To be released into the Biographies of Things Bookbox.
I'm claiming this hefty ex-library hardcover from the Biographies of Things bookbox - bookbox-journal here.
Later: I'm old enough to remember the semi-early days of television, though as this book goes all the way back to its origins it does predate me a bit {wry grin}. That said, I enjoyed the nostalgia of revisiting so many old favorites from my childhood - some of them still part of the pop-culture scene, others mostly forgotten.
The format is interesting, too: each section summarizes the history of the era under discussion, and then the narrative breaks into quotes from a number of industry folk as they recall their own participation in, and/or reactions to, the events. Actors, producers, writers, stagehands, and so many more - they provide an intriguing range of viewpoints. Some of the tidbits are pretty surprising, from "nobody thought this would fly"-style remarks about shows that went on to be classics, to personal comments about stars' less-than-stellar feelings about some of their own most iconic roles.
