I didn't want to buy this book because the movie looked so bad. But it was only $.50 at the rummage sale at St. Athanasius so I bought it anyway.

5/25 - This was a good book. It took me a little while to get into it, but then I just flew through. The first chapter was very Jules Vernesish, but then it settled down. It is basically the story of a doctor, his daughter and an Italian soldier on a little Island in Greece but it actually follows their lives for the next fifty years or so. I was a little disappointed with the ending which I saw coming from about 100 pages out. I felt it cheapened the rest of the novel because it was so cliche. Nonetheless, it was a good read and some history thrown in for good measure. I'd like to see how they adapted this to the big screen, but I'm glad I read the book first.
