The Night Hawks, a group of metal dectorists, are searching for buried treasure when they find the body of a young man washed up on the beach. Typically Ruth Galloway is more interested in the treasure, a hoard of Bronze Age weapons. DCI Harry Nelson is sure this is a case of accidental drowning, but when a second death is reported, he begins to suspect the lad may have been murdered. Nelson is then called to an apparent murder-suicide of a couple at the isolated Black Dog farm. Local legend talks of Black Shuck, a spectral hound that appears to people before they die. Myths don't impress Nelson, but the owner's suicide note includes the line, 'He's buried in the garden.' Ruth is called in to excavate. Ruth doesn't scare easily. Not until she finds herself at Black Dog farm.....

Another cracking tale from Ms Griffiths and the way the book ends leaves you wondering what will happen next regarding the love triangle situation. I like all the main characters and don't want anyone to get hurt. In fact the lives of the characters take second place to the murder mystery for me in most of Ms Griffiths books even though the crimes are well depicted and plotted.

This has arrived in Edinburgh! Thanks again Tanamo. :-)

This was definitely one of the creepier books in this series! The thought of the examination room in the scientist's house really gave me the heebie jeebies. Hope to get this one travelling again soon.

And off it goes to 3vie as a little winter rabckery. Happy reading!

Thank you so much bookfrogster for passing this on. This is one of my favourite series.
