Lark & Termite by Jayne Anne Phillips
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
An absolutely heartwrenching story of a family linked by the Korean War, congenital disease, poverty, and frayed inter-familial relationships. The story jumps back and forth between a specific set in the Korean War times and the present day life in the United States.
Phillips' lyrical style is precise yet stark - the reader is able to get shift the narration from one character to the next very easily. Highly recommended.
