Firstly I was so annoyed by Khalid Hosseini who in his introduction says that this gives a voice to Afghan women, even though the book is written by a man. Set in one room, where a woman looks after her unconscious husband and is gradually driven to tell her deepest secrets to his unconscious form, her most 'explosive' secret is unsurprising since it's what women in these circumstances have been forced to resort to for centuries. Despite this the book is well-written and sheds a fascinating light on life in a primitive war zone.
