I've heard so much of this book that I'm curious.
It's the school edition with annotations, oh well.

Very strange book, kind of a dystopian fantasy about a totalitarian society where people have no memories, don't perceive colours and know neither feelings nor sexuality. Well, nothing new, levelling and sameness are topics in about every dystopian novel I know. What I found strange is the basic claim that memories when once told are lost forever. A complete nonsense in my opinion: memories live on by telling and will die if one keeps them for oneself.
There is a lot of vagueness in this plot, but worst I found the ending. The hero remains in a snow blizzard, and it's not sure whether he survives it or is actually dieing right now of hypothermia. It's labelled as a book for young adults. Does the author think that teenagers don't like a happy ending?
