Thank you russbaum! This is a far nicer looking copy than most of the Agatha Christies that pass through my hands. I look forward to reading it.
This was Agatha Christie in fun, slightly silly mode. The protagonists Bobby and Frankie were entertaining, often light-hearted sleuths. The baddies were in their own way, almost as entertaining and light-hearted.
The plot had perhaps a few more twists than a book of this length could comfortably take and more exposition was required than usual at the end to explain exactly what had been going on. I did get a bit lost at times along the way! The whole dying words thing was implausible, but to be honest so was most of the plot. This isn't a particularly gritty or realistic novel - you're supposed to just enjoy it along the way.
So as Christie books go, probably a middle-ranking one in my opinion.

Passed to either Cassandra2020 or Triggerfish (can't remember which!) during a small garden meetup this afternoon.
It was me! Thanks!
This felt a bit like an Enid Blyton book to me. I kept expecting lashings of ginger beer. That said, it was an enjoyable romp through Southern England with a dare devil female character and her rather glaikit side kick.
