This book had me thinking. I have read it a couple of times and I'm always fascinated by it.
Sending as a RABCK to Bkworm9. Enjoy!
Just received this is in the mail from Lauraloo29. Thank you so much! I'll update again when I've finished it.
I finished this book a little while ago but haven't had a chance to share my thoughts until now.
The first book I ever read by Margaret Atwood was Alias Grace (highly recommended for future bxers). People kept telling me that I should read The Handmaid's Tale if I liked that one but I kept avoiding it because the way that they explained it to me, I was worried that it would be a poorly done rip-off of 1984 by George Orwell. It was only when a best friend began reading it and telling me about her reactions that I became a bit more interested.
I'm pleased that I've had the opportunity to read it through bookcrossing because that means that I get to share my opinions. The world that the novel creates is frightening but what made it scary for me is how realistic it seems through Atwood's writing. She has a straightforward style but at the same time, you wonder about the narrator and not all of the empty spaces are filled in. I'm not sure that I completely agree that this world is possible in our future but I can see how it might have seemed that way when the book was written.
Anyway, it's a great book and I hope whoever gets it next enjoys the read!
