I got this softcover at Toadstool Books (now Balin Books) in Nashua. It's a manga based on a web-novel turned light novel, which has also been adapted as an anime.

This one opens with our protagonist getting "licked by a little lupine loli" - a fan-service-laden scene leading into the series setup, in which we learn that Reiji has been transported to a fantasy world. And he's delighted about it ("Goodbye, overcrowded morning commute!"), immediately wondering just what the mechanics of this world are ("We operating on videogame rules? Do I have a stat screen, or..." - yes, he has a stat screen!), and promptly stumbling across a badly-wounded wolf. His inventory-screen reveals that he has a potion, but when he offers it, the wolf growls and refuses it - and, upon sniffing the potion, Reiji realizes that it really, really stinks. So he uses his newly-discovered "Identification" and "Medicine Making" skills to concoct a new potion with a pleasing aroma and taste, heals the wolf, and is astonished when she turns into the little lupine loli and licks the lingering traces of the medicine from his lips!

So we have a harem comedy? Seems like it, all the more so when Reiji meets a lovely ghost in the ramshackle building where he and werewolf Noela set up shop. And then a lovely elven archer named Kururu turns up, and he too finds Reiji very cute, to the point of dropping a series of increasingly-suggestive flirty comments on him. (Reiji isn't into guys, and is a bit disappointed to find that his first elf isn't as cool as he thought elves would be, but he rolls with it pretty well.)

The story seems pretty light and upbeat, with Reiji's potions becoming immediately useful and popular, whether he's giving the village's elderly carpenters the energy to rebuild the shack or is providing tasty healing potions to anyone who needs them. He even diagnoses Kururu's problems as eye trouble and whips up some eye drops.

So... is this going to be a gentle series in which amusing potions solve problems even as Reiji deals with yet another character who's fallen for him? Not sure, but it is pretty funny!

[There's a TV Tropes page on the light novel and adaptations, with some entertaining tidbits.]
