I brought this home from the book-sharing cabinet on Marina Way in Ripon while on a book-swapping drive out into the countryside in the Spring sunshine. It was my first visit to this well-stocked little library.

On a remote island off the west coast of Scotland, family is everything and you don't talk to outsiders . . . A good strong story of murder, secrets and lies that I thought was going to get too thrilling for me - but didn't!

Received this in a beautiful box of goodies sent to me as part of the Easter exchange 2022. It's interesting to see that this book started in Bookcrossing journey from Ripon where I have family connections: my great-Aunt Irene lived in Ripon following a lifetime of service as a cook at the nearby stately home of Norton Conyers. I have many lovely memories of visiting her in both places and being treated to a banquet of food she had made for me and my family. No doubt taking days and much of her pension to put on such a spread (homemade brandy snaps filled with cream were a particular favourite.) Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading this book, set in my new home of Scotland. I love a good thriller so this is going to the top of my 'soon to be read' pile. Thanks so much to Deltic for your kind generosity. Happy Easter to you too!

I felt the story gave me some insight into what island life might be like. It was nice to see a wheelchair-using npc feature - a rarity across genres sadly. It also featured non white and LGBTQ+ characters which was refreshing and nice to see. I wasn't sure that this male author had really depicted a female protagonist's experiences very well but it was, again, good to see some acknowledgement of the struggles against sexism, though I felt it more accurately depicted the males exasperation with women trying to address discrimination than it did a woman's problem with it. Anyway, overall a good read with an enjoyable story line.
