Review: The Hurting Kind (Ada Limon) What a lovely book of poetry this is! Interestingly, shortly after I acquired this book (one of my recent tailored book recommendations), Ada Limon was selected as the new Poet Laureat of the United States. I had never heard of her. I am, however, more than impressed with her creations. It is difficult to "review" a book of poetry, and the title might be a bit off-putting, but in spite of fearing this might be full of pain and hurt, it had the greater effect of making yearning palpable. She has divided poems into four sections named after the four seasons. I don't think that particularly mattered. Her cadences are captivating, and I found myself often rereading several times passages that simply flowed with beauty. One of my favorites is entitled "Cyrus and the snakes" and ends (I do my best to reproduce the spacing, which does indeed matter in this collection):

only for a second, long enough to admire it fully,
