Geobiologist Hope Jahren has spent her life studying trees, flowers, seed, and soil. Lab Girl is her revelatory treatise on plant life, but it's also a celebration of the lifelong curiosity, humility, and passion that drives every scientist.

I picked this up from a Little Free Library run by the Poughkeepsie Library District, and it's a library discard from their "Big Read" where many people read the same book and there are book clubs and discussion groups. I was attracted to this because my book club read it previously, before I was participating, and we read another Hope Jahren book a few months ago: The Story of More.

A memoir of her life with little mini essays about various botanical topics. She really lays her soul bare from mental health issues to personal relationships to professional struggles, all in a readable and interesting narrative.

Since this was a "Big Read" at my library, I'm counting this in the 2022 Beanstack+ Reading Challenge for "a library recommended book".

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

My religious group is looking for donations of paperback books for prisoners. Due to the lockdown, people in the jail have had no visitors or any of the usual
programming (recovery meetings, re-entry programs, and other groups). I'm putting this into a bag to take to them. I realize that the prisoners may not have general access to the internet to make journal entries but I think it's worth that risk.
