This is the final book in the trilogy. Will Lyra and Will be able to save their worlds and all the others as well. This book has one of the happiest and saddest endings I have ever read. I will not say more.

Hurrah received today as part of the trilogy can't wait to read them!!

23rd May - Have started this book today.

28th May - Couldn't wait to get home from work today so I could finish this book off. Really enjoyed the whole trilogy, Don't want to say too much incase I spoil it for others, but am not quite sure where the 'serpent' came into it although i do know who it was. Maybe if i really thought hard about it i'd get it, bit like Lyra trying to read the altheiometer (sp?).
Thank you so much PButtercup for sharing this wonderful trilogy. Will journal when posted on to omly.

After a particularly trying day I was thrilled to see this package sitting on my desk when I got home! Can't wait to start reading this series.

This book definately brought home much of the religious emphasis (and perhaps commentary on the part of the author?) that readers of this book mentioned on one of my other boards. It seems strange that Harry Potter is hit so hard by many extreme Christian right-wing individuals for encouraging children into "Satansim" and an interest in magic. This series has quite a bit of critism towards the Church (in the story line), unlike Harry Potter which really seems to try to avoid any question of religion. I guess the difference is based on sales, but as the popularity for this series grows that may become a more prominant issue.

I am not sure what I have to say about any messages about religion that may or may not have been implied. I think no matter what your religious convictions are there are some really good morals stated towards the end. It really made me stop and try to slow down. I find myself thinking a little bit more about life and how I want to live it, the best sign of a thought provoking book!

Received as part of the bookring for this trilogy.

8-19 PM'd yourotherleft for her address.

8-20 finished the last of the story this evening. I couldn't help crying my eyes out. Such a sad and powerful ending.
This has turned out to be one of the best series that I have ever read. The way the whole story comes together is just wonderful. It's hard not to go on and on without talking too much about what happens! (But I think the whole serpent thing was in her story and the marzipan. That seemed to open something in the two kids minds and so on?) It's strange to think about all the events throughout the first two books, because it really seemed to be so long ago, but then it's nice to see the other side of some events.

Thank you again, PButtercup for introducing and sharing this wonderful story with us.

Overall, this was an excellent series. I was really hooked (even though I came up with a serious time shortage this last month or two). I really loved what happened with Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter at the end (and I won't say any more!). I agree with omly in that I was a little surprised about the way the church was referred to in this final book especially and how it definitely doesn't get the same kind of attention that Harry Potter gets without ever even referring to the church. Some things that were said I agreed with, but some struck me as way off base...but there was some definite commentary on religion that I never would have expected from something like this. In ways, I actually enjoyed the spin on Christian tradition. Religion and philosophy aside, I really enjoyed the series, its imagination and its characters. Thanks for sharing, PButtercup, and sorry again for taking *so* long...

I mailed the 3 books out to alanfoxboro today.

This was definately the best of the three volumes in this series. Pullman ties all of the story lines together flawlessly in a great ending. Thanks to PButtercup for this bookring.

These books are ready to travel to the next reader pending an address.

These books made it back home again after their trip - thanks to everyone who participated in my first bookring! I think I am going to have to read them again before I give them to my niece and nephew.
