This is the second book of a trilogy. In the continuing adventures of Lyra Belacqua, she meets Will Parry who comes from our universe and they explore another world, Cittagazze. This was the creepiest part of the trilogy for me.

Received this today with the rest of the trilogy - yay!!

17th May - Just finished book 1 and am starting this 1 right away, can't wait to follow Lyra into the other world.

22nd May finished it tonight, seemed to whizz through it, how sad and yet utterly compelling, the ending just makes you want to pick the 3rd book up right away to find out the conclusion!

When I got home my roommate announced "You have mail from the BBC". Confused I went to my desk to find a neatly wrapped brown paper package (indeed postmarked BBC Philharmonic). Excited I ripped it open to find three lonely little books tired from their tran-Atlantic trip. It was like christmas!

I was so glad that I had the last book on me (just in case) when I finished this one so that I could start right into the last one. The first book is a little more drawn to a close where this one left me hanging wanting more. Thank you PButtercup for sending all three at once. I don't know what I would have done without that!

When I started it I was somewhat disappointed that Lyra wasn't the vivacious, impulsive, courageous little girl I loved in the first novel. Between just growing up and what I would assume would be an incredibly disorienting and scary transition she seems a little more timid, but on a more positive note also more cautious. Although her role is still important, I really liked the slightly broader range of characters that this book followed.

On a less reviewing note: I met a little boy (about 11 years old) this weekend who got so excited when he saw me reading this one. He was reading the Golden Compass currently. "Is Lyra still in this one?" he asked. I told him yes, but didn't tell him about Will. I think he will be pleasantly surprised.

Received as part of a trilogy bookring.
Can't wait to get started on this series. :)

Aug 9
Finished Book One last night, and starting Book Two tonight.

Aug 13
Wow... I'm very grateful Book Three is handy.. This series is non-stop. I enjoyed the introduction of Will's character, but it is difficult seeing Lyra growing up. Her character seems like she's maturing, and I do like the relationship that is emerging between them. I am dying to see this story unfold further and complete in Book Three (although I am sad to see it end..). Although they are losing me, somewhat, with the religious aspects of the story line.

Wow...this book was like a roller coaster...

I really liked the addition of Will's character, and it was interesting seeing Lyra in a bit of different light. You see a little more of her immaturity even while you see her growing up.

I'll be starting the 3rd book pronto. =)

Book 2 is a great addition to the story, but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as Book 1. I can't wait to see how this series turns out. Thanks again to PButtercup for these bookrings. I am starting on Book 3...

These books made it back home again after their trip - thanks to everyone who participated in my first bookring! I think I am going to have to read them again before I give them to my niece and nephew.
