Quite frankly, I'm a tad rattled as to why people were raving about this novel so much and I fail to see what's so fantastic about it.
The character of Marianne in my opinion was totally unbelievable and I could never figure out her motives. Yes, she was frail and damaged thanks to her abusive family but even that taken into account did not make her a likeable character to me. Connell was also a bit too weak and uninteresting and their on/off relationship over the years didn't convince me. Sorry, I fail to see why this novel is lauded as "a future classic" . I don't regret having read it but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
