An Amish woman in mortal peril attempts a disappearing act so ingenious that it might be beyond the law.
After Fannie Helmuth’s unwitting actions make her the target of a murderous drug ring, the young Amish woman hides in plain sight among America’s scattered Amish communities. But confrontation looms in Holmes County, Ohio, when her traveling companion is caught and murdered by a cartel that won’t stop at a single killing.
Sheriff Bruce Robertson is charged with finding the elusive Fannie and getting her into protective custody so she can testify in federal court. Playing out his struggle in dreams of a deadly lion, the sheriff finds himself torn between upholding the legal system he represents and the beliefs of the people he is sworn to protect.
A delightful book set in Amish country. Touches on all the differences between the different sects. Interesting characters and action.

Dropped off on the doorstep of CrossingGuardMa to start her New Year off nicely.
Not only did sing song drop off some books, she dropped off a cheese ball and crackers for us to munch on while we play zoom cards for our 2020-2021 covid New Years celebration.
This was an interesting book on the Amish. It took me forever to read as I didn’t get really into it, but wanted to finish it.
Meeting up with sing song so returning s couple books.
Enjoyed a patio get together with crossingguardma and sing-song. Exchanged a few books as well.
I did finish the book but I was very sceptical of the Amish being involved in the crime and the actions of the sheriff's department were not believable in my opinion.
Book taken to the Calgary BC Meetup today.
