Paraphrased from the back of the book: "2 children for sale" --the sign is a last resort. It sits on a farmhouse porch in 1931, but could be found anywhere in an era of breadlines, bank runs, and broken dreams. For struggling reporter Ellis Reed, the gut-wrenching scene evokes memories of his family's dark past. He snaps a photograph of the children, not meant for publication. But when it leads to his big break, the consequences are more devastating that he ever imagined. At the paper, Lillian Palmer is haunted by her role in all that happened. She is far to familiar with the heartbreak of children deemed unwanted. She and Ellis must decide how much they are willing to risk to mend a fractured family. Inspired by an actual newspaper photograph that stunned the nation.
This book was chosen by my book club, and it did generate a good discussion on media ethics, and how things have changed for women and children in the last century. I liked how the author gave her characters room to grow and change.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Merry Christmas to my favorite bookcrosser. Enjoy!
A lovely Christmas gift - sounds interesting, thank you !
This book was much different than I thought it would be - I thought the story would be told through the children's eyes. Despite my misconception, it was an interesting story although I thought some parts of the plot (which I will not reveal since it would spoil it) were improbable or highly unlikely to actually occur as written. It was also slow going for me until I was about two thirds done - the story just seemed to plod along and it took me a while to get into it. I could see this "hollywoodized" as a movie.
