Alice Hoffman weaves a powerfully imaginative story of the horrors of WW2 in Europe. It speaks of love, loss, grief, heartbreak, resilience and courage and in so doing illustrates both the very best of humanity and the worst. Well worth reading.

A haunting, magical story of love and sacrifice during World War 2. In Berlin Hanni Kohn knows she has to do whatever she can to get her daughter Lea, out of Berlin to save her life. She seeks out a renowned rabbi, but it is his daughter Ettie who offers to help. Ettie creates a mystical Jewish creature, a golem Ava, who is sworn to protect Lea. Ava and Lea travel to France to distant relatives, but Jews are also being hunted and persecuted in France and they need to escape. This is the story of their journey to survive and the love that develops between Ava and Lea. Beautifully written story of love and sacrifice. Will release somewhere in France
