This is a quirky novel moving in different directions constantly. It contains a fairly heavy dose of violence together with a roller-coaster ride of genre-bending twists and turns. Not for everyone however I think it is rather cleverly written. Give it a try.

It's in an alternate reality. There is another 1985, somewhere in the could-have-been, where dodos are regenerated in home-cloning kits and everyone is disappointed by the ending of Jane Eyre. But in this world there are policemen who can travel across time, a Welsh republic - and a woman called Thursday Next.
The idea of a literary detective had me interested and I thought I'd read it until I saw the pages all scribbled over. So this book will travel on to greener pastures of farce.

I had this on my "to read" shelf for ages and only realised it was a travelling book when I finally dove in. (Sorry for its travel delays).
I loved it.
Great story, original premise and superb writing. I picked it up as I greatly enjoyed another Fforde book (Early Risers). His weird & wonderful imagination and writing style are so fun!
