The Clan of the Cave Bear
10 journalers for this copy...
I will start reading the first of the three books sent as part of this bookring as soon as possible.
Ooooh! I've wanted to read these for ages; how exciting! Thank you!
Ooooh! I've wanted to read these for ages; how exciting! Thank you!
I've wanted to read this series of books for a long time, so imagine my delight when I saw that babykittysmama was organising a bookring for them.
Unfortunately, I just could not get into the first book. I persevered for the first 50 pages. Then I decided that I really ought to give it another 50 pages, but all to no avail. And so, with great disapointment, and a degree of embarrassment, I am passing these three books on to the next reader, almost totally unread.
Sorry babykittysmama, but thank you for the opportunity to give them a whirl.

Posted today.
Received as part of a bookring along with the next two in the series - will shoot straight to the top of my TBR pile!
These are big books, but I will be as quick as I can..
Thanks to Mytilusgirl for passing along and Babykittysmama for organising!
17/6/04 - Well, I'm about 150 pages in, and really enjoying things so far. Will journal more when finished!

Neanderthal Soap Opera meets the History Channel! OK, so I'm being flippant, but I actually really enjoyed this. The amount of detail and historical research seemed to be very good, and the individual stories of the characters were engaging and kept me turning the pages.
The only occasional jarring note was Auel's style - she was good for most of the time, but sometimes a phrase wouldn't quite fit. Also I'm none too sure of the whole racial memory theory - but I'll leave that to an anthropologist to prove or disprove!
On to the next in the series!
08/07/04 - waiting for address details
27/07/04 - Due to snowmyst having e-mail/ computer problems, and with babykittysmama's permission, I'm sending these on to ronoren asap. Hopefully snowmyst will be able to recieve them at a later date. :)

Got them in the mail yesterday and started on Clan of the Cave Bear immediately. Only a few pages in there, it starts of good! I'll write more when I'm through
I loved it so much, I went through it in about a weekend (granted, it was a weekend in which I had very little else to do, but it's still kinda quick isn't it?).
I really liked the language that the Clan uses, although I tended to forget that they do not speak (at least, not as we're used to the word). Apart from that, I had a lot of trouble envisioning Ayla as a 7 year old girl, she just kept turning into an 18-year old (or so) in my head. I guess it makes sense, considering that maturity was reached earlier, but it's a little disconcerting anyway...
I wonder how much of the way of living that is described is in accordance with the "true" way of life then (as far as we know it), and how much is Auel's fantasy. It felt like it was based on real facts!
As I got this same book from Jamesmum as a RABCK (and will get the next ones soon), these copies are available for snowmyst (as soon as s/he sends me and address...). I'll keep on journalling, though.

As Snowmyst doesn't respond, the books are going to BunnyLady. Hope you'll enjoy them!
Rec'd this book yesterday with 2 of the others for the series I am still looking for the 3rd book in the series. When I find it I'll read these and pass all 4 on as a set. Thanks for sending RonOren and thanks for giving me the time I would need babykittysmama to find and read the whole set.

I caught this in Bunny Lady's bookbox. It's very interesting so far and I'm going to keep it and the others in the series. I'll journal all the books and the box later today.

This is my first experience with book crossing. I have always wanted to read this book and am anxious to get started. Moreover, I teach English at the high school, and I am interested in seeing how this works. What a fabulous idea!
