I'm a Hopper fan, so perhaps that's why I enjoyed this collection better than his other. My favorite stories happened to be at the beginning & at the end; those who enjoy spy novels may appreciate the middle ones. This was my 1st reading of Joyce Carol Oates and, if this contribution is anything to go by, my last.

Took this off my Mount TBR to read before the Newcastle BC Uncon at the end of the month sp I can pass it on to a fellow bookcrosser who hopefully will love this book too.
I really enjoyed the idea of creating short stories inspired by paintings and afterwards the paintings somehow became a new meaning with the story attached to it. I never knew much about Edward Hopper but feel a bit more enlightened now.
My favourite stories were " The truth about what happened " and " The woman in the window"

Edward Hopper's paintings give me the impression to catch a unique moment in time, and this is the feeling I experienced reading the stories collected in this book too. Some could be taken as interpretations of the artworks, others might have taken the images as inspiration to find their own narrative.
This book is a very unique way to experience artworks, opening ways to look into the stories they can tell and the tales they can inspire in their viewers, while at the same time also offering the opportunity to appreciate gems of writing by a wide spectrum of different authors.
I read that after this book, Lawrence Block published also another work with this format, entitled "Alive in Shape and Color. 17 Paintings by Great Artists and the Stories They Inspired", and I would be curious to check that out too!
Thanks again for sharing this book with me @kinedi!
