Du dos du livre:

"Qui est Vernon Subutex. Une légende urbaine. Un ange déchu. Un disparu qui ne cesse de ressurgir. Le détenteur d’un secret. Le dernier témoin d’un monde révolu. L’ultime visage do notre comédie inhumaine. Notre fantôme à tous".

I started reading this in English, realised it was a translation and bought this copy so I could read it in the original (with the translation as backup!)

We meet Vernon as his luck is finally running out. Having successfully traded on his charm until middle-age, he has ended up out of a job after his record shop was forced out of business by the advent of digital music, and with nowhere to live due to the death of the rock-star friend who paid his rent for a few years afterwards.

Now he's reduced to bumming a few nights here and there off his circle of acquaintances, charming women into bed, trading a place to stay for his DJing skills, pretending that it's temporary.

We follow him around, meeting a cast of characters that includes a freelance tabloid journalist, ex porn stars, someone transitioning simply because life is easier as a man, a woman who gets paid to trash people's reputations online, far right activists, a screenwriter embittered by his lack of success and a homeless woman who's not afraid of anyone.

Satirising misogyny, racism and neo-facism, porn culture, the dominance of the internet, the gig economy, fame and other present day issues, it's a drug-fuelled, foul-mouthed rollicking ride.

Edit: released on 29/5/22 on a seat on Voie 2, Joinville le Pont station - and journalled before I'd even made release notes. Yay!!! I hope the finder enjoys the book, and BookCrossing. :-)

Je ne l'ai pas lu mais je trouve le concept de book crossing excellent!
