Book Blurb;
"The Plague that has decimated fourteenth century Europe appears to have returned today to the high dry lands of the American Southwest. But Tony Hillerman's famous pair of detectives, Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn, discover an even deadlier killer.

An eagle poacher is caught red-handed, huddled over the bloody body of a police officer. It seems an easy case. But the same day a biologist working on the plague scare disappears from the area....."

My Blurt:
This the 13th book in Tony Hillerman's series of books set on the Navajo Reservation and centered around the work and lives of two tribal police detectives Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn. It gives a fascinating look into the Navajo and Hopi Cultures.

On his website, Tony Hillerman says in writing these books he is "motivated by a desire to give those who read them at least some insight into the culture of a people who deserve to be much better understood."

I look forward to each new book in his series to read a mystery with an interesting story and characters, but, especially, learn more of the Navajo and Hopi Cultures.

Comments from other bookcrossers who have a copy of this book on their shelves are:

Danemic from Laingsburg, Michigan,USA

"Hillerman is always great for me, since I love the southwest about as much as he does. His books are very accurate for their native American content, also.
This one is typical Hillerman, and hard to put down."

AnnaMc from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
"I enjoy Tony Hillerman's books because the background of Navajo customs is very interesting. The mystery plot is always good and the characters well-rounded - you want to read the next book to find out how their personal lives unfold."

The-MO-Kid(34/4) from Phoenix, Arizona,USA
"I love the respect that Hillerman has for his Native American characters and their culture. His mysteries are always good"

Met BC Ferns at Robina Shopping Centre where we swapped a few books.
It is always interesting to read books about other cultures and while this is a murder/mystery it also gives us some insight into the navajo and hopi traditions.
Very enjoyable.
