Journal Entry 1 by wingkiki66wing from Gauting, Bayern Germany on Saturday, February 1, 2020
From the “Queen of Suspense” Mary Higgins Clark, a gripping and twisting mystery featuring a television news reporter who finds herself drawn into a terrifying web of treachery, where nothing is as it seems and the truth may be too devastating to pursue...

The murdered woman could have been her double. When reporter Meghan Collins sees the sheet-wrapped corpse in a New York City hospital, she feels as if she's staring into her own face. And Meghan has troubles enough already without this bizarre experience. Nine months ago, her much-loved father's car spun off a New York bridge. Now, investigators are saying that there's no trace of his car in the river, and they suspect he faked his own death. With frightening speed, links start to appear between Meghan's father and her dead lookalike. Meghan may be in danger herself, but she's determined to find the truth to the mystery. In a nightmare journey spiraling from New York to Connecticut to Arizona, Meghan finds that the truth can sometimes be deadly.

I started reading it last night.
Not sure when I will be able to go to the post office next, but this will make a great read for these difficult times. :)

Pure Higgins Clark... many characters, lots of descriptions of clothes and food... All in all, thoroughly enjoyable, and just what is needed in these difficult times.
I didn't see it coming... I mean, until the end, the plot kept me guessing.
Well deviced and nicely written, and highly recommended if you want to keep your mind off other things.
Thanks for sharing; I am currently making a pile with the books I will send once the social isolation period is over. :)

This and a travelling companion arrived here in the Swiss Alps. It may be a bit of time before I read them, and especially before I can get to a town with a post office, but they are safe. Thanks so much for making these available, and thanks for sending. Stay well everyone!

This was the second of the two books in the bookcrossing ring - a sort of Mary Higgins Clark sampler. I can't help thinking how exciting this must have been when it was written, between the theme of artificially assisted births, IVFs, and stalkers, with all the electronics involved... I am not sure how well this has weathered the test of time. It reads well and the story is exciting and full of twists and turns, but it seems to fall just short of being a great read. I think Meghan remains rather opaque as far as characters go, and that may be part of the problem. The love interest also feels a bit perfunctory, ah yes, we need a romantic aspect... I am still open to discovering this author more, but she's not on my "must have right away" list.
Thanks so much for sending and for making these available!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

After weeks and weeks in the "to be sent" bag, and a few unsuccessful attempts to send the books, this and its travelling companion finally made their way to France and I was able to post them from here. I could hardly believe it when the postmistress didn't bat an eyelash as I handed her book parcels for Canada, Australia, the USA, Ireland and as here, Finland. Sorry for having been so long in sending off this bookring. Thanks for making the books available - I hope everyone is well and healthy!

Thank you for this book and its companion, penelopewanders. They arrived safe and sound today, took 3 weeks to travel from France to Finland. Mary Higgins Clark seems like a good summer read, so just the perfect timing. :-).

Journal Entry 11 by wingPaulanniwing at Riihimäki, Kanta-Häme / Egentliga Tavastland Finland on Monday, October 26, 2020
Yes, lots of twists and turns, but the novel is highly entertaining, as the plot gets thicker and more mysterious by a chapter. There are a lot of people, but Higgins Clark introduces them gradually, so it is easy to keep tabs on each of them.

It took me a long time before I started reading the book, but now it is ready to be sent to the next person in the ray. Thank you for sharing, kiki66, and sorry for the delay.
