Daughter of Moloka'i

From the book jacket..."This rich and spellbinding novel tells the story of the twenty-two-year-long relationship between two women who never expected to meet, much less come to love each other. For Ruth it is also a story of discovery, the unfolding of a past she knew nothing about."

I read this book for a book club discussion on a Hawaiian cruise. This book filled in the 20+ years relationship between Rachel and Ruth which left me wanting more in "Moloka'i".
This book tells Ruth's story after she leaves Moloka'i. The book also tells a story of the Japanese internment during WWII.

Thanks so much for the tag.

The story continues following the life of Ruth after she is adopted by a Japanese family. It delves into the relationship of Ruth and her birth mother, Rachel. In between the war is covered in great detail as is the internment camps the Japanese were forced into.
The beginning and end of the story was very good, but the middle had too much detail for me.
The book is on reserve for booklady331 as a RABCK.

Thank you so very much for sending me this book. The cover is so pretty. The funny thing is someone sent me the first book last week. She knew I was reading books for the 666 challenge and sent me three different ones. Thanks a lot again for sharing with me.

This book is beautifully written. It gives a good insight into the Japanese culture in California and also how leprosy was contained so it would not spread. It is really sad some of the things that happened to people. It is easy to judge now as we look back, but during this time people were frightened. I did find that towards the end, the book dragged. This is the second in the series , but you do not have to read them in order to understand the story.

Enjoy! Wish lists RABCK

What a wonderful surprise!
