This is a biography of Golda Meir and because she was so linked with the establishment and early history of Israel, I learned a lot about Israeli history. This is well written and very readable but there is sooo much. It was occasionally a challenge to come back to the book.
I was startled to learn about the strong disagreements among the founders--many of the strains are still apparent currently in Israel, for instance, about the west bank settlements. I also had not been aware of how socialist the Yishuv and early government had been. Nor did I see the change in the US attitude toward Israel.
