Purchased new from Powell's Books
I listened to the audio book read by the author. It is tremendous. Her frustration comes through loud and clear along with a bit of humor (you have to laugh or you will cry). Now I will have to purchase a paper copy to really look at the data. A lot of numbers fly by.
At first I thought: I cannot believe that 50 years later we are still facing this but Perez makes it clear why. In a world where most things are designed for the default male body by mostly males, it becomes clear where things are going wrong and what we women need to do.
From a friend's review: "The author makes a compelling case for how a variety of things have been designed in ways that are bad for women--public transportation, government policy, healthcare, housing. She shows how data isn't collected or, when collected, isn't properly disaggregated by sex or gender."
I have been aware for decades that medical research steers away from including females in medical trials. I was not aware that extends to test animals-all male rats (really!).
Generic Viagra has shown some promise for treating dysmenorrhea but no one wants to fund the research. Why?
Anyway a number of my friends can look for a copy of this book on its way to them.
