THE REVENGE OF COLONEL BLOOD (A Four Ravens Adventure) by MARK JACKSON (03/01/2013) | ISBN: 9781780884684 | Publisher: Matador, Troubador Publishing Ltd (160 pages)
---------------------

Great pace, a classic adventure plot and some involving characters, plus cinematic descriptions of the activity — best thing some unexpected directions. The self titled Four Ravens being ex-soldiers, now Beefeaters stationed at the Tower of London, who decide to react after The Crown Jewels are stolen 'on their watch'. Pooling their extensive varied 'specalist' skills they set off to recover the loot, their determination and resourcefulness taking the thieves unawares.
Bet this would be an engaging read out loud tale. More shenanagians from The Four Ravens would be grand!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Special Advent Project Book - wrapped and numbered the tenth book of my 2019 Advent project.

I passed this over to the recipients with other such books and am now making a late (apologies) controlled release journal entry. THE REVENGE OF CAPTAIN BLOOD is especially earmarked for reader T. These books have been a delightful surprise for the recipients I think, odd numbers to BookCrosser Flutterbies9 and even numbers directed at reader T.

Woops, an even more belated journal to say received as part of the advent calendar of books in December 2019 (a brilliant idea that!) and on Mr Flutterbies9's tbr at present.

Book Burble :
"There are some things that History does not record.......

London 1925 : The Crown Jewels have been stolen from the Tower of London and a group of old soldiers going by the name of The Four Ravens are hiding in the shadows of The Lucky Sailor pub. Their mission is to hatch a plan to find the thieves and regain the Crown Jewels. However, in this adventure, nothing is as it seems."

As I was fixing the BX labels in this book, it somehow moved tbr piles and I found I had this in my paws and was reading it before I knew it.

Cover.

I actually really liked this book, though I had not expected to as I was aware that there was an amount of violence that I am generally not happy with! The plotline was well thought out and the writing was such that you were constantly moving through the pages keeping up a fair pace (thankfully, not a frantic pace such as Bond movies, but a good pace nonetheless) and this made the book remarkably easy to read.

The 'extra' for me was that my sister bought this whilst visiting The Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen (not for the first time) and the book is signed by the author. Though our father did serve, it was not with the Gordons, however he had friends who were.

I have put this back on Mr Flutterbies9 tbr.

Mr Flutterbies9 read this last year and says he enjoyed this as a little different from his usual reading material, although he does like reading historical settings. He would read another in the series if it was available.
