dolph1n, many thanks for my SECRET SANTA 2019, BookCrossing parcel stuffed with all the goodies mentioned below, and apologies for the delayed journal entries. I hope you had a super busy Christmas and your start to the New Year’s been great!

Thanks for your two parcels and their 4 books;
OWLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL by Donna Andrews - a WISH LIST book for which, a hearty whoop!
COMING HOME… FOR CHRISTMAS by Patricia Scanlan
CHRISTMAS WITH THE BOMB GIRLS by Daisy Styles
--- this one --- CHRISTMAS IN THE SNOW by Karen Swan

Thanks also for all the goodies; Christmas greeting card for me, a selection of wrapped chocolates, plus some chocolate ‘coins’ wrapped in foil [all now munched - yum], a large selection of tea envelopes in a cute wee, ‘gift’ sock, a plush elf, bunting reading HAPPY NEW YEAR in foil letters, and four (door-way length - gasp) snowflake garlands, festive print coasters, some festive cards for me to give next year, a peg paper-clip decorated with a felt flower (handy crafts always a treat), a pack of up-cycled gift-tags, and a most fabulous pad of Super Sticky post-its printed with a jolly, carrot-nosed snowman. As a stationary enthusiast and an inveterate post-it fan I must offer special thanks for these.

HAPPY NEW YEAR dolph1n

Well, I finally got around to reading this book, and about time too! I had intended this for a Secret Santa but had not completed it before sending that out, however I have another thought for it.

This is a light and easy storyline with the two sisters (Allegra and Isobel) taking central parts. Essentially, it is a family storyline with a bit of romance along the way to lighten the atmosphere, nothing too heavy but certainly very entertaining and enjoyable. The central character is Allegra and she carries it well, if a little unsurprisingly at times, but there are twists and turns along the way which varies the predictability more than a little. Frankly, I thought this might be a lot more "mushy" than it was, the high powered world of Allegra was well explained (if a little unreal), the settings lovely and it kept enough attention to finish the story and feel satisfied with the storyline.

I do have something in mind for this so wait and see ............

Beautiful sisters Allegra and Isobel have a very different outlook on life from the way they responded to family breakup - Allegra has a high-powered job in finance, and never lets her emotions get in the way, whereas Isobel's focus is all on her husband and baby. So when Allegra meets the gorgeous Sam on a business trip, and then discovers he's her opponent in trying to win a deal, she's determined to keep him at arm's length and treat him as an enemy. Meanwhile in a small Swiss skiing village, a body buried by a long-ago avalanche is uncovered, linked to Allegra and Isobel in a way they couldn't possibly imagine. I was half-expecting Allegra to give up her career for love as seems to happen in far too many romantic novels, but this is much more imaginative than that - sentimental, but with a great strong heroine, a bit of a mystery, and plenty of twists. As a woman working in a very male-dominated industry I felt a lot of sympathy with the amount of work Allegra has to put in to be taken seriously.
