Have heard of this. Looks interesting.
This tells the story of Dinah - the only daughter of Jacob (father to many sons including Joseph of dreamcoat fame). She apparently gets just a passing mention in the old testement, but Diamant has woven a rich and very engaging story around her. She uses characters and scenarios from the bible but tells the story from the female character's point of view.
I struggled a bit through the first section of this, as it seemed to just be about babies being born, but that was really just to set the scene and populate the book. Once it really got going I found it captivating. It is by no means a happy story, though it isn't all doom and gloom either. It did leave me wanting to know more about Jewish history and the characters of the time.
I'll take it to the next Meetup I can make - unless anyone requests it before then.

How weird and wonderful bookcrossing is! I received this on Wednesday morning, and then went to the PO to pick up my Valentine's parcel which also included a copy of this book..so I have offered as an RABCK to RoryG and keep it travelling. Thanks so much for sharing with me and I hope you don't mind too much!

Thank you sooo much for the book. I would love to start it right away, but I have some other books in line first. Bookcrossing is a wonderful thing :)
