Summary
Rain patters on the windows. Rain patters on the roofs. Rain patters all over town on people and in the streets. As Rain patters all around, a child watched streams swell, rivers rush, and the sea seems to swallow the sky. Rain falls all around a little girl who leaps over pieces of the sky as she watches and listens to the magic of the rain.

Critique
This poetic celebration of rain is an interesting new way for children to appreciate a gray and gloomy day. Using strong descriptions and watercolor pictures, author Uri Shulevitz creates a magical impression of rain. The rainstorm described runs with the happiness, discovery, adventure, and curiosity of a child. Though the book may be geared for younger children, this book's poetic and artistic value can entertain any reader.

Activities
Watercolor Pieces of the Sky Assist children with painting puddle shapes with watercolors to illustrate their own pieces of the sky. Paint larger puddles on the floor (or sheets of posterboard) for a variation of hopscotch.

Interpretive Theater Instruct older children to work in pairs or groups of three to create a performance art piece that experesses the characteristics, mood, or effects of rain. Provide examples on video tape or invite a performance artist to class to demonstrate and discuss what performance art is.

I released this book while I lived in the area (from 1990 to 1997) but BookCrossing didn't exist back then. The book I released at this location is still there, but not labeled with a BCID. I plan to label this book and release it in this location again in the near future.
