Go smacked when I recently read The Handmaid’s Tale. Very interested to see what happens next.
**Spoiler Alert**
This is billed as a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, so I was really looking forward to finding out what happened to Offred next and perhaps a bit more about her (like her name). Also how the downfall of Gilead happened. This book doesn’t directly involve Offred (we get pretty stingy hints as to her ex’s instance), which was a shame as she was our entry to Gilead in the first place.
The author did something kinda interesting, we find out more about the dreaded Aunt Lydia and her role in both formation of Gilead and it’s demise. Interlocking with her diary entries are the Testaments of two unnamed young women, one growing up Inside Gilead and one in Canada.
I found it hard to get into this book, as I’d read the first one a few years ago and couldn’t recall all the details so well, which would have been useful here. The book did pick up pace as I became more settled within it and events were rushing forward to to dramatic but not all that unsurprising conclusion. I don’t think I got all the answers I had at the end of The Handmaid’s Tale. This book was interesting but unnecessary. I just feel The Handmaid’s
I came across a paperback copy with a very interesting interview with the author providing more detail and background on her inspiration for The Handmaid’s Tale. That was a scary but worth while read.

Packing this book up to send to a BookCrosser to grant a wish on her list. She has been very generous granting several of mine so it’s about time I granted one of hers.
So sorry it took me so long to get my act together, I’ve been so tired and run down lately. Hope you enjoy this book.

Sent this book by another BC’er… and finally I’m getting round to reading it! :) (I watched the TV series first and thought it was great)
