The Fairy Gunmother by Daniel Pennac - ok

On face value this should have been right up my street - quirky and amusing crime. In practice it just didn't grab me. Halfway through I almost abandoned it, but persevered to the end.

Set in Belleville, Paris, with a weird and wonderful selection of odd characters, there's a murderer about, slitting the throats of old ladies. There's also a pusher getting old folk hooked on drugs. The Police are looking for the first and a journalist for the second. That they all intersect around one character is basically the book.

There's an old policeman in drag pretending to be an old woman, there's weird family dynamics, corrupt officials, an epileptic dog. Should be quite funny. Maybe starting with the second of the series is why I couldn't get into it, maybe the translation wasn't smooth. Not sure, but I shalln't be looking for any others in the series.
