Tough Sh*t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good
3 journalers for this copy...

The New York Times bestseller that is profane, honest, and contains totally wise sh*t from one of America s most original voices. That Kevin Smith? The guy who did Clerks a million years ago? Didn t they bounce his fat ass off a plane once? What could you possibly learn from the director of Cop Out? How about this: He changed filmmaking forever when he was twenty-three, and since then, he s done whatever the hell he wants. He makes movies, writes comics, owns a comic book store, and has built a podcasting empire. Tough Sh*t is the dirty business that Kevin has been digesting for forty-two years and now he s ready to put it in your hands. Kevin provides you with a blueprint for success, taking you through some big moments in his life to help you live your days in as Gretzky a fashion as you can: going where the puck is gonna be. Read all about how a zero like Smith managed to make ten movies with no discernible talent and how when he had everything he thought he d ever want, he decided to blow up his own career."

I loved reading Kevin Smith's honest truth here in this wonderful book. I loved discovering the reason why and how he became Silent Bob, the face behind the quirky and different movies I've loved. I'm boosted but also saddened that I'm not the only one who has had to put up with fat prejudice. Boosted because it makes me feel less alone. Usually (skinnier) people tell me I'm imagining it, and here Kevin Smith says 'yep it's true'. I'm saddened because when will fat-shaming stop? Yes, it is STILL the one society-allowable prejudice, but why is it still allowable? Racism and sexism are frowned upon, but not fat-shaming, and fat-shaming seems worse than ever.
On a more positive note: Ah, when he gave tribute to John Hughes for inspiring his work, I put my hand on my heart because he's been my inspiration through the work he left too. I loved John Hughe's work so much that it was going to be the basis of my MA thesis back in 1997 (It never happened because I quit doing a Postgrad degree that wasn't working for me. I'm a writer not a theorist). No wonder I'm a big-time fan of Mall Rats if Kevin Smith loved John Hughes too!
