“Amy was one of those rare people who made an impact . . . She was a bundle of emotions, at times adorable and at times unbearable. . . . Amy's passing did not follow a clear line. It was jumbled, and her life was unfinished―not life's natural order at all. She left no answers, only questions, and in the years since her death I’ve found myself trying to make sense of the frayed ends of her extraordinary existence.”

Amy's mother, Janis, knew her in a way that no one else did. In this warm, poignant, and at times heartbreaking memoir, she tells the full story of the daughter she loved so much. As the world watched the rise of a superstar, then the free fall of an addict to her tragic death, Janis simply saw her Amy: the daughter she’d given birth to, the girl she’d raised and stood by despite her unruly behavior, the girl whose body she was forced to identify two days after her death―and the girl she's grieved for every day since.

***
A little on the soppy side, naturally as it is from the mother's point of view. Still, gives a little depth to the well known story and an insight to the artist growing up. I did hate the British press going after Amy at her worst and the people buying the tabloids for the pictures, and they're continually doing the same thing to other public figures, again and again and again. If even one of them had taken their jacket to cover Amy up, helped her indoors instead of clicking more and more pictures, agitating her time after time.
Next up in the piles, the father's version!

I have mixed feelings about this book. Some bits almost made me cry, but it still felt like some kind of guilt trip; mother trying to convince herself that she could not have done anything more to save her talented daughter. So tragic, Amy did not want to die, but it seems like she maybe didn't want to live either.

Sending off to Tmarju.

Matkustan ympäri maailmaa -haasteeseen tässä olisi useampikin vaihtoehto, mutta valitsen Saint Lucian, tuon Karibian saaren, johon todellakin haluaisin vielä joskus matkustaa.

Thank you for offering me this interesting book.
Amy was a talented musician, but also so much more.
