From the blurb on the back cover:
"The first novel in Jean M. Auel's magnificent epic of life on the glacial continent of the last Ice Age, when two kinds of human beings, Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon, shared the earth. Its heroine is Ayla, a courageous and indomitable young woman whose story begins when she is a five-year-old orphan adopted by the Clan, a group of Neanderthal."

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
This was an interesting book! I know very little about the Ice Age and Neanderthals so I have no idea whether it's historically accurate (or whether the information is dated since it's from the 1980's). The languages can get a bit technical and dense, also sometimes a bit flowery for my taste. But the characters were well rounded and sympathetic, and I couldn't help rooting for Ayla, the heroine. I enjoyed it and I'll probably look for the sequels!
