Mixed feelings on this one. I loved the premise, which is what drew me to the book to begin with. It felt truly fresh and original. On the other hand, the tone was more "pop fiction" than I had expected and hoped for. Also, there was A LOT of cursing -- to the point that I found it distracting. A well-placed curse or two can be powerful. This amount of cursing just made it seem as though the author did not possess a sufficient vocabulary. It took me out of the story, as did the many scenes of and references to drinking. I think the book was aimed at a twenty-something audience, and while that doesn't mean that older people can't enjoy it, it did create something of a disconnect. Lastly, the main character, Alex, isn't particularly likable, especially early on in the book. I found that a bit off-putting. The novel is a light, fast read but, as you can tell, I had some quibbles.
