Pity the poor man, life was just a trading tool for the rich/powerful forces in control at the time in spite of the Republic concept. Poor Cicero who met an ignominious ending following his principles

The third book in the Cicero trilogy, when there was a time when Cicero held Caesar's life in the palm of his hand. But now Caesar is the dominant figure and Cicero's life is in ruins. Exiled, separated from his wife and children, his possessions confiscated, his life constantly in danger, Cicero is tormented by the knowledge that he has sacrificed power for the sake of his principles. His comeback requires wit, skill and courage - and for a brief and glorious period, the legendary orator is once more the supreme senator in Rome. But politics is never static and no statesman, however cunning, can safeguard against the ambition and corruption of others.

Easy to read but too much detail. I still admire Cicero and am astonished at the dark truths about Julius Caesar whom everyone admires. Young Augustus was no surprise.

Final in the Cicero trilogy which concludes with his death. Sorry to spoil the ending, but it is a story of one man fighting for his values and ending up being betrayed and killed by those who value money over all else.
