The title is slightly misleading, as there is very little actual information about Dido and her incredible life. What the book does is set the scene of the world she was living in - and what a brutal time it was! I found this book fascinating, distressing and educating. I couldn’t put it down. Another subject I’m desperate to find out more about now. I was also stuck by how sad it is that so little information survives about such fascinating woman. You would think that such an unusual situation would have generated more surviving historical document. I can’t help thinking that such an educated lady would have kept a diary too.
