A man is snatched from a New York St, and the only witness is an 8 year old child. The only clue is a miniature noose left on the street. Forensic experts Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are called in to investigate. The case takes a strange twist when a video is discovered of the victim being strangled with his gasps underscoring a piece of music, the video is marked as copyright, the Composer. Then another similar kidnapping occurs outside Naples in Italy. All they can do is follow the evidence.
